Food Services at Towson University - 982 Words

Towson University should make an effort to reduce theft in regards to food services. Food services loses about 40-50 Chic-fil-A sandwiches per day due to theft (Cubbler, R. 2011). Other stolen items are typically sushi, chicken nuggets, and bottled beverages (Cubbler, R. 2011). Towson University should provide a TU police officer during peak theft times, set up a visible working or dummy security camera in the dining facility, or place a set of lockers outside of the dining facility similar to the ones outside of the Bookstore. Money saved from reducing theft could be used for funding sustainable practices that are sometimes more expensive. One marketing idea includes making a promotional video. This video would include students or other key figures at Towson University that the students can identify with. This video could address multiple ideas surrounding sustainability. The University’s efforts toward sustainability can be addressed, specifically in the recycling programs, refillable water bottles, etc†¦., in a way that draws attention to the issues and is meaningful to the students. The video does not have to be long either, but rather they could be short mini videos. In order to make the video more meaningful to the students, the University could hold a video competition like the one that was done for the Cook Library Video (Cook Library, 2010). Cook Library issued a request for students to create a promotional video, with products that followed a clear list of rules, and then they held a contest to pick a winner (Cook Library, 2010). This was a success and the video result ended up on Youtube (Cook Lib rary, 2010). The video would be especially useful in addressing the RecyCALL recycling program and could be effective especially in the dining facilities themselves.
